a branch of forensic science encompassing the recovery and
investigation of material found in digital devices, often
in relation to computer crime.
Digital forensics investigations
have a variety of applications. The most common is to support
or refute a hypothesis before criminal or civil courts.
The private sector utilizes digital forensics during internal
corporate investigations or intrusion investigation.
As well as identifying
direct evidence of a crime, and assist in corporate investigations,
digital forensic is now being utilized by the private sector
to assist in domestic investigations to identify hidden
assets infidelity and more.
